The Downey Patriot Highlights Cpl Litke Golf Tournament Raising Money For Vets With PTS

Save the Brave, a non-profit organization aimed at providing camaraderie and stress management programs to veterans who suffer from PTSD, is hosting the first ever Corporal Simon R. Litke Magnificent Bastards Charity Golf Tournament on Sept. 12.

The event will take place at the MCCS Camp Pendleton – Marine Memorial Golf Course, and will feature live music, food, drinks, silent auction, and of course, golf.

The tournament is being held in honor of Corporal Simon R. Litke, who was a squad leader in Ramadi with 2/4 Echo Company. Litke died by suicide in 2015.

This is the first golf tournament being held by Save the Brave (STB). According to STB president and founder Nick Velez, who owns Bastards Canteen in Downey, the tournament will not be “like your average golf tournament.”

1st Annual Simon R. Litke Magnificent Bastards Charity Golf Tournament

We are asking for your generous support for Save the Brave (STB), a certified non-profit organization connecting Veterans through outreach programs to build strength of character for Vets dealing with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS).  Our success depends on generous Veteran sponsors like you. STB is completely volunteer based, no one takes a salary of any kind. All proceeds go directly to help Vets throughout the year as well as fund these events.

The 1st Annual Cpl Litke Magnificent Bastards Charity Golf Tourney will be held on 12 Sept 2017 at the MCCS Camp Pendleton – Marine Memorial Golf Course aboard Camp Pendleton followed by a silent auction. Simon was a squad leader in Ramadi with 2/4 Echo Co that our country tragically lost to suicide in 2015. We are honored to host this event in his memory.

This exclusive event is going to be a tremendous day of golf, live music, food and drinks.  Simon’s parents and family are flying in from Minnesota and will be joined by authors, celebs, Vets, Gold Star families, active duty Marines, and other great supporters. Our current sponsors are Ballast Point Brewing, Spec-Hops Brewing, Bastards American Canteen, Calloway, PLB Coffee, and a host of others.

By sponsoring and supporting STB, your organization will gain visibility and recognition on promotional mailings, the golf course, as well as on all STB social media. This is a great way to share your efforts in supporting such a great cause. Some recent donation examples include:

·       Sponsoring individual golf holes and tees with company name displayed

·       Monetary donations

·       Gift Baskets of company goods and products for silent auction

Thank you for your time, consideration, and contribution to help support our Veteran community.

Simon Litke Final Salute

Simon Litke was a combat decorated United States Marine. Everyone who knew Litke would characterize him as charming, encouraging, and a leader. As a leader of Marines, Litke taught men how to survive, and also made the days under the hot Ramadi sun bearable. On November 2, 2015 Litke left us with a lot of questions unanswered. We lost an iconic Marine to the battles we still face as veterans, suicide.

Please help us to help his loved ones heal, as we attempt to fly out to Litke’s memorial on November 12. 40 Veterans who served with Litke in the Iraq theater of combat are requesting assistance in the form of $20,000 in order to say their final goodbyes to their brother.
Sadly, this tragedy can either promote more despondency and spread a contagious outbreak of trauma. Or this tragedy can bring America’s warriors together and help stop the torment of the debilitating nature of PTSD. You can be a part of the healing that America owes to our young men who sacrificed their life in support of this nation’s freedom.
